Writing these photo blog posts are such a treat to me. I pick the images in the order they were taken so I can follow the storyline behind the photo shoot. From there I just start writing, feeding off of what I am able to remember from the experience. There is no need for a draft. Today it’s my pleasure to share with you, another fun photo session I did in the Miami Design District area. The home of the Fly’s Eye Dome and the world’s top fashion and jewelry boutiques, cafes and celebrity-chef restaurants.

My muse for the day was the amazing Drew Tyree, she is currently enrolled at the Florida International University as a graduate student in the higher education administration program. She is the owner of The Curl Coach, where she coaches men and women on how to master and love their hair, by building a regimen specifically tailored for their hair type and texture. Xo Naturals is her second company where she makes 100% homemade organic hair products. Talented sista with a beautiful soul. Follow her on IG to be part of the TLC (Tender, Love & Curls) movement.

The session was shot using only natural light. In a crowded area like this, it’s not a good idea to bring your big softbox with a light stand. People might trip and you always want to keep a low profile. The most important thing to keep in mind is that the light is constantly changing, so pay attention to your exposure.

The shots you can create in an area like this is almost endless. Take advantage of it and ask your model to bring at least two different outfits with as many accessories that she can.

Don’t be afraid to engage with the vendors and ask for their permission to take photos in their stores or with their products. We met a lovely lady who was kind enough to let us use her flower stand to create these next images.

That yellow wall is everything and the contrast with her dress makes it a strong image.

Never forget to have fun. As a photographer, it is our job to get the subject comfortable in front of the camera, especially when we first met the day of the shoot.

Pay attention to the environment. This place is a big canvas, your vision is your palette
